Cream of Tartar

I guess some people know this, but I did not:

Cream of tartar is not a cream at all, and has nothing to do with what builds up on your teeth. It's a white powder used in cooking, mostly in baking. In fact cream of tartar mixed with baking soda is called baking powder. So next time you eat a delicious cake it is likely that cream of tartar had something to do with the aforementioned deliciousness.

I guess some people know this, but I did not:

Cream of tartar is a byproduct of wine. It is made from what is left at the bottom of the barrel after the fermentation process has ended and the wine has been removed.

It seems that ''bottom of the barrel'' may not be that bad after all.
