I have since learned that Dominic Fiore, Bar Marco's sommelier, also works for The Livermore, Bar Marco's sister restaurant.
...a blog about the lighter side of wine...

Unusual Places - Bar Marco

Bar Marco is unusual in more ways than one.

• It made the local and national news by eliminating tips; the
complete staff is salaried and has fringe benefits.
• It has an exceptionally uninformative website - we had no
  idea what to expect.
• It has a sommelier - highly unusual in an establishment
  this small.
• It has an extensive selection of wines not found on the
  local scene.

Faithie and I went there for dinner. It is located in a small old fire engine house in the Strip District of Pittsburgh, but with the totally unassuming décor we felt like we were in Brooklyn.

Faithie liked her pasta dish, and I liked the taste of my chicken - but not the bones; I guess I should have asked about that before ordering. Service from both servers and the sommelier was outstanding.

A total surprise was that the chef came out and apologized that the chicken was not cooked all the way through and took it off the bill without me having complained.

All in all Bar Marco made our "go back to" list.
